Australia’s first ‘Nutrition in Healthcare’ Symposium brings ‘What The Health’ expert Dr Klaper to Brisbane

MEDIA RELEASE

8 Nov 2017 - For Immediate Release

US plant-based healthcare expert Dr Michael Klaper MD is appearing in Brisbane next week as part of the Nutrition in Healthcare Symposium national tour, in a first-of-its-kind Australian event series.

Dr Klaper has appeared in award-winning documentaries such as Cowspiracy and What The Health, where he advocates powerfully for a ‘whole food plant-based’ approach to chronic disease prevention and treatment.

Dr Klaper’s clear, informative and entertaining style has inspired many as they awaken to the multiple benefits of shifting away from animal products and embracing veganism.

One of his most celebrated clips is from Cowspiracy, where he explains why humans don’t need dairy:

The plant-based health message is increasingly catching on, as professional dietetic bodies around the world – including Australia – have confirmed that well-planned vegan diets are suitable for all stages of life, and highlighted their potential for reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, obesity and diabetes.

The medical profession has been relatively slow to look at diet, but Dr Klaper is part of a growing movement in the medical community to champion nutrition as central to health care, and he says the shift is underway:

"Medical students are asking questions. They know it's important. And the public is demanding it. It's a time of great change. The old order is crumbling. It's time for us to let nutrition in the front door where it belongs."

As the plaque on his desk proclaims:

"It’s the food. It’s been the food all along!"

As well as the keynote address by Dr Klaper, the Brisbane date will feature local experts Kiah Paetz APD (Australian practising dietitian) and Dr Andrew Little MD (medical practitioner), alongside three local patient ‘case studies’ who have transformed their health through plant-based diet shift.

The Symposium tour is hosted by Raw Events Australia, and Animal Liberation Qld is excited to be the charity partner for the Brisbane event, to be held on the evening of Tuesday 14 November in Kangaroo Point.

Tickets – with optional add-on dinner box meals catered by local health-conscious vegan food and beverage purveyors – are available via Eventbrite.
