Membership & Donations

Can I become a member?

Please note that under our constitution, becoming a financial supporter does not automatically give you voting rights. Voting rights (full membership) are granted to financial supporters by application. If you are an existing financial supporter, please contact us for more information.

Can I claim a tax deduction for my donation?

Animal Liberation Queensland is a registered charity (registered with the ACNC) and a registered non-profit in the state of Queensland (ABN 66 010 101 005).  For more info on DGR status and tax deductions please refer to the ATO.  Unlike many other charities, ALQ does not have Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. This is because our work does not fit the federal government classifications for DGR due to our work being mostly advocacy-based. We are focussed on prevention (including education and advocacy), as well as investigations and exposing animal cruelty (rather than directly providing short-term care for animals - refer to ATO rules regarding animal welfare charities). This means that we do not qualify for many philanthropic grants that are available and which many charities depend on for their continued work. It also means that we are unable to take advantage of various other schemes such as workplace giving as these also require DGR status. Furthermore, we do not receive government funding and we are therefore solely reliant on memberships and donations to fund the important work that we undertake towards ending cruel and unnecessary exploitation of animals. We gratefully appreciate the support of all of our wonderful supporters who have not let this influence their financial support, and we thank you for continuing to support our work as we fight for a more compassionate world for animals.

Can you send me a tax receipt?

ALQ is not DGR registered for tax-deductible gifts (see above). We do send receipts for all one-off donations. For regular monthly donations we are happy to provide a summary at the end of each financial year for your records.

How can I get more involved or volunteer with Animal Liberation Qld?
